A Weekend Escape to Point Samson: Fish, Chaos, and Family Adventures

Settling into Point Samson

Normally, we’d take the caravan out to Point Samson, but with the long weekend temperatures hitting a March standard of 40 degrees, we decided to switch it up and check out the Point Samson Beach Chalets this time. A bit of a luxury move, but the heat made it the perfect choice. The villas were well-stocked with everything we needed, making it super easy to settle in. That said, I’d recommend maybe not picking a weekend when it’s 40 degrees out—even we locals were starting to roast.

After unloading (and immediately cranking the air con), we had a cool down in the Chalet pools, before we headed to down to Honeymoon Cove at low tide. The rock pools were teeming with life—fish, crabs, and sea cucumbers were everywhere. The kids had a blast exploring, with Miss 8 finding every fish she could spot, while Miss 2 was happily running around making her own discoveries.

The Jetty – Where Fishing Feels Like a Distant Dream

We made our way to the local jetty to check out the fishing scene. Local kids had been catching Jacks and barra buring most of the day out at the Jetty, while Miss 8 was doing her best to reel in bait fish. Miss 2, however, was focused on a different kind of “catching” by tossing her dummy off the jetty.

We rounded off the visit with fish and chips—pretty much the best thing you could ask for after a day of madness.

Wickham Pools: The ‘Relaxing’ Adventure

The next morning, we headed out to Wickham Pools for what we thought would be a relaxing start to the day. With three kids, “relaxing” is always a bit of a stretch, but we gave it a go. The Karratha Leisureplex is a fav in our fam, but the Wickham pools was a welcome new adventure. Great facilities, lots of shade! Miss 2 was running around like a tornado, making sure we were all on our toes.

Thankfully, the @folkincommon coffee van was at Wickham to rescue us, serving up some much-needed coffee and sweet treats. If there’s one thing that can make a chaotic morning a little more bearable, it’s a good cup of coffee, and perhaps the best cookie I've ever experienced in my life.

A Weekend Well Spent (and Survived)

Overall, our trip to Point Samson was a hit—despite the scorching heat. The villas were a great option for a break from the caravan, and we had an absolute blast, from exploring the rock pools to fishing at the jetty. If you’re planning a trip here, just be mindful of the weather—unless you’re looking for a real challenge in the heat.

Can’t wait to get back next time (maybe in slightly cooler conditions!). 😅-Tash
